More than 70 percent of respondents to a survey on advertising in India believed that the regulation of advertisements in the country should be taken over by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) from the existing self-regulatory body, Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). The survey also indicated that consumer trust in advertising in India was low that year. Misleading advertisements surged in India since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
