The cost of giving birth in the U.S. varies widely by the delivery method and whether one has insurance or not (or was out-of-network). In 2023, the cost of birth was lowest for women with insurance and when it was a natural birth. The national median amounted to 13,946 U.S. dollars and included the amount paid for by the women and her health plan. The cost of a cesarean section in-network was roughly 3,000 U.S. dollars more.
For people without insurance or using out-of-network services, the cost of giving birth more than doubles. The cost of delivering a baby also varies widely by state, whether it was a vaginal delivery or per c-section.
