An August 2024 survey analyzed the opinions of Europeans on setting limits on the amount of tourists that can visit popular destinations worldwide to reduce overtourism. While over 60 percent of the sample in Germany and France either strongly or somewhat supported this idea, half of respondents in Sweden and Great Britain backed this initiative.

¹ Total survey count. The number of respondents by country was as follows: 2,189 in Great Britain, 1,013 in France, 2,301 in Germany, 1,026 in Denmark, 1,021 in Sweden, 1,060 in Spain, and 1,011 in Italy.
The source phrased the survey question as follows: "The following are all actions that popular tourist cities/destinations have taken or proposed as a way to reduce over-tourism. For each of the following, please say whether you would support or oppose each suggestion - Setting limits on the amount of tourists that can go to popular cities or destinations".
