Production of fish and fishery products in aquacultures in Germany, by species

In 2023, a total of around 5,782 tonnes of rainbow trout (excluding salmon trout) were produced in German aquaculture operations. Therefore, this was the most produced fish in German aquacultures that year. The common carp and the salmon trout followed in second and third place with approximately 4056.02 and 1837.91 tons of live weight in production each. Aquaculture is the practice of breeding, raising, and harvesting fish, shellfish, and other aquatic organisms in controlled environments such as ponds, tanks, or ocean enclosures. It is also known as fish farming and is used for food production, conservation, and restoring aquatic habitats.
