Unfamiliarity with live commerce was the leading reason for not shopping via live commerce in Japan, as revealed in a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in May 2024. Around 65 percent of respondents stated that they did not participate in live shopping events because they did not understand how the e-commerce subset worked.
Although popular streaming platforms like YouTube and Showroom have integrated shopping functions on their websites, live commerce participation remained low.
