Unemployment spending in Italy constantly increased from 2001 to 2022. Public investments grew steadily from the late 2000s, during and after the 2010-2011 Euro crisis. The expenditure on unemployment settled at around 20 billion euros in 2019. However, the government allocated 42 billion euros in 2020, for facing the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market.
