As of 2024, Melbourne-based brewing company Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), owned by Japanese beverage conglomerate Asahi Group, held the largest share of the beer market among breweries and beer retailers operating in Australia, with a share of approximately 50 percent. Sydney-based competitor Lion, a subsidiary of rival Japanese beer and beverage holding company Kirin, held the second-largest share of the market, around a third.
