In 2023, the value of chemical products in automobiles varied between internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs) in North America. For an average mid-sized ICE vehicle, plastics and polymers were worth around 500 U.S. dollars per vehicle. In EVs, these materials had a higher value of 730 U.S. dollars per vehicle. Carbon fibers showed an even more significant disparity, with their value in an average North American mid-sized EVs reaching approximately 1,470 U.S. dollars per vehicle, compared to just 10 U.S. dollars per vehicle in ICE vehicles.
