The average automobile contains various chemical products. In 2023, plastics and polymers constituted 9.6 percent of the total weight of an average vehicle manufactured in North America. Overall, chemical products accounted for about 27 percent of the overall weight of an average North American manufactured vehicle as of 2023. Compared to these figures in 2015, there was only slight variation.
