According to a survey conducted on North Korean defectors living in South Korea, about 35 percent of respondents who defected during the 2016-2020 period reported that they had used a mobile phone while living in North Korea. This was a notable increase compared to a decade ago. According to the source, internet access was not available for the vast majority of these devices.
