In the financial year 2023, Australia's Official Development Assistance to the Pacific region totaled around 1.8 billion Australian dollars, with the highest allocations to Papua New Guinea and the Regional Pacific Island countries. The funds were primarily directed towards governance, health, and education sectors.

Who receives Australia’s Official Development Assistance?

Australia’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) is not only distributed across many regions in the world, but also allocated to various groups within these regions. These partners who receive ODA from Australia are varied but include groups like non-government organizations, universities, and academic institutions. The amount of ODA each of these partners spends on various sector groups is also varied, with non-government organizations spending almost 84 million Australian dollars on Health, but only around 19 million Australian dollars on Economic infrastructure.

While the Pacific region is the largest recipient of Australian ODA, every world region receives some form of development assistance. Many countries in the South East and East Asia region received a large amount of ODA from Australia in 2023. The Latin American and the Caribbean region received the least amount of ODA from Australia in that same year.
