In 2023, China was the largest supplier of refined cobalt worldwide, accounting for more than 170 kilotons. Finland and Japan followed, with 19 and six kilotons, respectively. Altogether, the three countries accounted for roughly 88 percent of the world's supply of refined cobalt in 2023. Furthermore, it is projected that China will continue to dominate the supply market by 2040.
