In Portugal, the number of higher education graduates has substantially increased during the period analyzed. The 42,000 graduates of the academic year 1996/1997 contrast with the over 95,600 graduates of 2022/2023. Women have constantly exceeded men in graduate numbers during this period. In 2022/2023, there were almost 56,000 female graduates versus 40,000 male ones.
