The average distance cycled among cyclists in France is highest among the age group of 65 to 85-year-olds, who reported cycling an average of 38.6 kilometers per week in 2023. The youngest age group surveyed, 11 to 17-year-olds, cycled the shortest distances. However, this age group cycled some of the largest numbers of trips each week.

Original survey questions: How many times did you use your bike to make the following journeys [by reason] on that day [for each day of the week]? What was the total distance travelled in kilometers for the following types of journey on that day [for each day of the week]?
Participants were split evenly between the survey period in June and October.
Participants, who had cycled in the previous seven days were asked about their trips. The data, therefore, represents two typical weeks in June and October.
The source notes that distances cycled are self-reported and likely overestimate the distance. The data is therefore most valuable as a comparison between weekdays.
