According to a survey conducted in South Korea in 2024, around 46 percent of respondents stated that guaranteeing self-determination over one's own life was why they favored legalizing assisted suicide. This was the most common reason by far, with others dealing with alleviating the circumstances, ranging from one's own pain and suffering to the burden on others. Currently, passive euthanasia is legal in South Korea but is limited to the terminally ill with no chance of recovery. Other forms of assisted dying, including assisted suicide or active euthanasia, are not legal.
