According to a survey conducted in South Korea in 2024, around 80 percent of respondents reported that they were willing or very willing to register an advance letter of intent to withdraw life-sustaining treatment if they were to ever become critically ill. This process requires a consultation and a written letter of intent that would be registered in a database and is only available for adults. Passive euthanasia was legalized in South Korea in 2018, and is reserved for the terminally ill with no chance of recovery.
