Carbon dioxide emissions from flaring in the United States totaled 21 million metric tons (MtCO₂) in 2023. Since 2010, U.S. flaring emissions have more than doubled. The U.S. was the fourth-largest gas flaring country in the world in 2023.

These data include flaring from upstream, downstream oil and gas. Emissions have been calculated using flared natural gas volumes based on standard cubic meters (standardized using a Gross Calorific Value (GCV) of 40 MJ/m3) and the standard conversion factor for emissions from the IPCC. Perfect combustion has been assumed.
