The biggest contributor to global gas flaring emissions in 2023 was Russia, having produced 59 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂). The 10 largest gas flaring countries accounted for three-quarters of global flaring CO₂ emissions in 2023.

These data include flaring from upstream, downstream oil and gas. Emissions have been calculated using flared natural gas volumes based on standard cubic meters (standardized using a Gross Calorific Value (GCV) of 40 MJ/m3) and the standard conversion factor for emissions from the IPCC. Perfect combustion has been assumed.
