Germany: available public charging points by charging speed 2017-2024
As of January 1st, 2024, nearly 100,900 public chargers in Germany were normal charging points, compared to 24,500 fast charging units.
The volume of charging points available in the country steadily increased through 2024: The normal charging network grew by around 36.7 percent compared to 2023, while fast charging rose by some 66.1 percent during that period.
Charging stations in Europe
In 2023, nearly 755,800 charging points for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) were spread throughout Europe. This value marks the highest level on record.
Electric vehicle sales in Europe
Electric vehicle sales surged in Europe in the second half of 2020 and have fluctuated ever since. In 2023, Norway was the country with the highest market share of passenger electric vehicle sales. In Germany, the market share of battery electric vehicles reached 18.4 percent, while that of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles came to around 6.8 percent.
