In 2021, among first-time HIV cases in Canada where race and/or ethnicity was reported, the highest share among males was among white individuals, at 44.6 percent, followed by Indigenous, at 16.1 percent. Among females, the highest share was reported by Indigenous females, at 47.9 percent. This subset presents proportions of the total number of cases that had race and/or ethnicity reported (n=664). Cases where race and/or ethnicity was not reported were excluded from the totals used to calculate these proportions.
Total cases includes those reported as transgender, and cases where sex was not reported, whereas “male” and “female” columns exclude these cases.
