In 2021, among first-time HIV cases in Canada where race and/or ethnicity was reported, 38.3 percent of cases were identified as white. Indigenous people (including First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and those identified as Indigenous-not otherwise specified) accounted for 23.9 percent of cases, and 15.4 percent were reported as Black. This subset presents proportions of the total number of cases that had race and/or ethnicity reported (n=664). Cases where race and/or ethnicity was not reported were excluded from the totals used to calculate these proportions.
Total cases includes those reported as transgender, and cases where sex was not reported, whereas “male” and “female” columns exclude these cases.
