In 2024, hospitals in the United States needed an average of 86 days to recruit a registered nurse (RN). The average time to recruit an experienced RN ranged from 73 to 94 days, depending on the specialty. During that year, hospitals in the U.S. needed an average of 94 days to recruit a registered nurse specializing in medical surgery. While the recruitment difficulty has decreased somewhat compare to previous years, hospitals are still taking nearly three months to recruit an experienced RN in 2024.
