The returns of the S&P 500 Financials Index in the United States were highest in 1928, when the Republican Political Party was in power. On the other hand, the financial sector had its worst year in 2008, where it lost 37 percent of its value. In 2020, under the Democratic Party, the index gave a return of 18.4 percent.
