Between 2014 and 2023, the highest return on equity (ROE) of the EU banking industry was reported in 2023. That year, the ROE stood at 8.97 percent, up from 6.93 percent in 2022. The lowest ROE was measured in 2020, at 2.22 percent. The countries with the highest ROE in 2023 included Cyprus, Hungary, and Latvia.
