U.S. oil giant, Chevron, retired around six million carbon offset credits from major voluntary carbon registries between 2020 and 2022. The majority of these credits were linked to carbon offset programs in Colombia, a country in which Chevron has a history of oil-and-gas exploration. Many major global companies rely on carbon offsets to reach net-zero emissions and meet their climate targets.
