According to a 2024 global survey on Olympics viewership, more than half the respondents in India stated that they were patriotically motivated to watch the multi-sport event. The other leading reason was to enjoy the spectacle and excitement of the event. About 33 percent of respondents watched it for the athletic feats and performances. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics were broadcast to and viewed by an entirely virtual audience due to the pandemic, making the 2024 Paris Olympics a much-anticipated post-pandemic event.
