In 2022, over 120,000 Palestinian workers from the West Bank and Gaza were employed in Israel. Between 1996 and 1999, prior to the second intifada, the number of Palestinian employees increased on average by almost 10 percent per year. In 2020, the number of workers crossing into Israel fell due to the coronavirus pandemic. Subsequently, between 2020 and 2022, the number of workers from the Palestinian territories, grew again by about 15 percent a year on average. Following the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023, the Israeli government significantly reduced the number of the Palestinians permitted to work in Israel.
