In 2024, 25 out of the 98 global small modular reactor (SMR) designs were being developed in North America, of which the majority in the United States. Russia followed, with 17 SMR designs in different stages of development, while the Asian countries of China, Japan, and South Korea accounted for 19 SMR projects.
