Worldwide, a median of over half of the respondents were dissatisfied with the way democracy is working in their country. Dissatisfaction levels were highest in Peru, where almost 90 percent were dissatisfied. The Latin American country has been marred by frequent political protests, and major turmoil broke out at the end of 2022 following an attempted self-coup by then President Pedro Castillo and alleged police brutality against demonstrators. Meanwhile, people in Singapore were most satisfied with their democracy.
