In answering the question regarding what government incentives can encourage a U.S. consumer's decision to buy or lease an electric-only vehicle (BEV), a tax discount at the time of purchase or lease was the most incentivizing option, with nearly half of respondents preferring it. A discount for installing home chargers was the second-highest option. However, access to carpool lanes even while driving alone was not as attractive for consumers, with around two in 10 participants reporting it would encourage them to buy or lease a BEV.

Original survey question: "The following are incentives that are either already available for electric-only vehicle owners or are being considered by local or national government. Which, if any, do you believe would encourage you to buy or lease [if Q4 = Yes or No, but I have in the past, "another"; otherwise, "an"] electric-only vehicle?"
The optional text in brackets would be added depending on the respondent's answer to the previous questions.
Data was collected mostly through web-based methods, and mostly in English, with 172 interviews being in Spanish.
Data assigned confidence levels of 95 percent, with +/-1.37 percentage points as a margin of error.
Question is regarding fully electric vehicles, not utilizing other fuel sources.
Percentages will not add to 100 percent as each respondent could choose multiple answers.
