For over half of U.S. consumers, the purchase price was the biggest cost-related hurdle disincentivizing them from buying or leasing a battery-electric vehicle. Nearly four in 10 respondents highlighted maintenance and repair costs as a disincentivizing factor. In contrast, only five percent of consumers reported that the possibility of higher state registration fees for electric-only vehicles would make them hold back on the purchase or lease of a BEV.

Original survey question: "You told us that cost-related factors would [if Q6 = seriously consider, add "potentially"] prevent you from buying or leasing [if Q4 = Yes or No, but I have in the past, "another"; otherwise, "an"] electric-only vehicle if you were to buy or lease a vehicle today. Specifically, which two of the following cost considerations would be most likely to hold you back?"
The optional text in brackets would be added depending on the respondent's answer to the previous questions.

Data assigned confidence levels of 95 percent, with +/-1.37 percentage points as a margin of error.
Question is regarding fullly electric vehicles, not utilizing other fuel sources.
Percentages will not add to 100 percent as each respondent could choose up to two choices.
