Number of candidates for the legislative elections in France 1988-2024
In France, for the legislative elections in 2024, around 4,000 candidates were competing for the 577 seats in the National Assembly. This represented a decrease of 2,300 candidates when compared to the previous election. On the 9th of June 2024, after the results of the European elections, President Macron dissolved the National Assembly and called for new legislative elections. The first round of these elections was to be held on the 30th of June, therefore candidates had little time to apply, which might explain the low number of applications.
