As of 2024, residential rooftop-mounted solar photovoltaic energy systems accounted for the largest levelized cost of energy (LCOE) in the United States. The capital cost represented over 90 percent of their LCOE, at 112 U.S. dollars per megawatt-hour. By comparison, offshore wind energy installation had the largest fixed operation and management costs, at 12 U.S. dollars per megawatt-hour, while gas peaking energy plants had the largest fuel price.
