According to a survey conducted in February 2024 in Japan, 62.7 percent of respondents stated that they added store-bought frozen food to their self-made bento more than once a week. In contrast, around 8.3 percent of people have never used frozen food while preparing bento.
O-bento refers to packed lunches in Japan. While they used to be mainly home cooked meals in the past, packed lunches have become a major segment in the convenience food sector.
