Global death rates in children from air pollution 2021, by region
The death rate among children under five years of age from diseases linked to air pollution varies greatly around the world. In 2021, the highest death rate was among in Africa, where there were 211 deaths per 100,000 children. This was roughly twice the global average death rate, and 100 times higher than it was in high-income countries. Globally, more than 700,000 deaths among children under five years of age were from diseases linked to air pollution exposure.
