In 2019, it was estimated that a total of around 32 million pregnant women worldwide suffered from anemia. Most of these cases were mild or moderate, while 1.1 million were severe. Anemia is a condition in which a person does not have enough healthy red blood cells to effectively carry oxygen throughout the body. There are many different types of anemia including iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, and hemolytic anemia.
