Entrepreneurs' opinion about corruption frequency 2022-2023, by business sector
Among Italian entrepreneurs, more than 70 percent of those active in the industry and manufacturing sector declared that they were forced to pay bribes to obtain some facilitation. These included trade licenses, tenders with the public administration, import/export authorizations, or the acceleration of legal and fiscal procedures. Moreover, corruption is highly perceived in agriculture and in the construction sector, as around 45 percent of businesspeople declared that they are often exposed to bribery. On the contrary, only 5.3 percent of the interviewees working in financial brokering declared that they were obliged to corrupt someone for obtaining those services. On average, 38.5 percent of the respondents affirmed that entrepreneurs must resort to bribery during their usual business.
