Prevalence of anemia among non-pregnant women worldwide in 2019, by severity

In 2019, it was estimated that a total of around 30 percent of non-pregnant women worldwide suffered from anemia. At that time, 16 percent of non-pregnant women had mild anemia, while only one percent had severe anemia. Anemia is a condition in which a person does not have enough healthy red blood cells to effectively carry oxygen throughout the body. There are many different types of anemia including iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, and hemolytic anemia.
