In financial year 2024, Maharashtra was the leading producer of jowar (sorghum) in India, with a volume of about 1.4 million metric tons. It was followed by the states of Karnataka and Rajasthan.
Millets, including jowar, are a group of nutritionally rich, drought-tolerant crops mostly grown in the arid and semi-arid regions of India. Known as 'coarse cereals,' they are used for both food and fodder, making them highly efficient for farming.
