In 2023, Australia was the leading metallurgical coal exporter worldwide at 152 million metric tons. Australia expects to increase its exports of this coal to 155 million metric tons by 2026. Russia was the second-highest coal exporter in 2023 at 51 million metric tons, but it is expected to decrease its exports to 48 million metric tons by 2026.
