In 2022, aluminum had the largest production quantity of any critical mineral in the United States, at over 872,000 metric tons. That year, zinc was the second largest produced critical mineral in the U.S., at 761,000 metric tons. Critical minerals are essential for the transition to a lower carbon energy system. Consequently, critical minerals have become essential to the growth and technological development of the U.S.

(in metric tons)
production figures were not available for all of the critical minerals produced by the U.S.
Supplementary notes
The United States Government has defined 50 minerals as critical: aluminum, antimony, arsenic, barite, beryllium, bismuth, cerium, cesium, chromium, cobalt, dysprosium, erbium, europium, fluorspar, gadolinium, gallium, germanium, graphite, hafnium, holmium, indium, iridium, lanthanum, lithium, lutetium, magnesium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, neodymium, nickel, niobium, palladium, platinum, praseodymium, rare earth elements, rhodium, ruthenium, samarium, scandium, tantalum, tellurium, terbium, thulium, tin, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, ytterbium, yttrium, zinc, and zirconium.
Production volume figures were not available for the following critical minerals from the source, either because the U.S. does not produce it or because the source did not provide the data: graphite, hafnium, holmium, neodymium, iridium, lanthanum, tantalum, gadolinium, indium, fluorspar, manganese, tungsten, ruthenium, tin, niobium, thulium, terbium, praseodymium, gallium, europium, dysprosium, ytterbium, erbium, chromium, cerium, bismuth, cesium, vanadium, scandium, arsenic, yttrium, antimony, magnesium, samarium, and lutetium.
