In 2023, an estimated 93.3 percent of pickup trucks on the U.S. market had a petrol internal combustion engine. This share is forecast to drop to around eight in 10 pickups by 2028, as the share of electric-drive pickups is projected to climb to 13.5 percent.

The Pickup Trucks segment includes mini, mid-size, full-size, and heavy-duty pickup trucks which have an enclosed cabin in the front and an open cargo area in the back. Sales of pickups of all uses (e.g., campers, police vehicles) are included. All key figures shown represent the sales of new pickup trucks in the basic configuration in the respective year. Used vehicles are not taken into account, nor is adapted equipment for the new cars sold. The prices and revenues shown as well as the distribution of connectivity, drive types, autonomy levels, and average CO2 emissions are accordingly based on the basic models.
