Average annual temperatures in Mexico are projected to rise under the different Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP), based on the historic baseline of 20.4 degrees Celsius (°C). Under the RCP 4.5 intermediate emission scenario, it is expected that temperatures will rise to 21.4 °C in the next decades and to 21.8 °C by mid-century. Temperatures will continue to rise to reach 22.4 °C by 2099, following the same scenario.

RCP 4.5: intermediate GHG emissions. CO₂ emissions peak around 2040 and start declining by 2045, reaching half of 2050 levels by 2100. Likely to result in a global temperature rise of 2-3 °C by 2100.
RCP 8.5: very high GHG emissions. CO₂ emissions continue to rise until 2100. Taken as the basis of worst-case climate change scenario.
