Level of trust in FOSHU claims in Japan 2024
The majority of Japanese consumers showed trust in the claims of health foods categorized as “foods for specified health uses” (FOSHU), according to a survey conducted in April 2024. Over 44 percent of respondents stated that they believed in the information and explanation on the labelling of FOSHU products to an extent, while 12.9 percent showed a high level of trust.
FOSHU or tokuho in Japanese, refers to a category of foods with health claims. The products have to pass an evaluation by the government, which tests the safety and claimed health promoting and maintaining effects.
