Visa and Mastercard reached their highest transaction values in the U.S., although both card schemes were used relatively more in Europe. This is according to estimations calculated by Statista from numbers that first tried to establish the market size of domestic POS and online markets, and that were then used to calculate the market share of specific payment methods and brands. For this statistic, the focus is exclusively on the three major card brands - Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Notable is the diversity in Europe when it comes to these major card schemes. Neither the UK or Germany process the most payments with Visa or Mastercard, but it's countries like Finland and the Netherlands, respectively.
