GHG emissions from warfare during the Russia-Ukraine war 2022-2024, by source
An estimated 175 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) were generated in the first two years of the Russia-Ukraine war. Of this total, some 51 MtCO₂e were caused by warfare activities, both at the frontline and supply chain of both armed forces. The largest sources of warfare emissions during this time were linked to fuel consumption, particularly from Russian troops.
