Road transportation emissions in the European Union increased by almost 25 percent between 1990 and 2022. Light-duty trucks experienced the largest percentage growth in emissions during this period, at 56 percent. By comparison, passenger car emissions grew by just 17 percent. Nevertheless, passenger cars are the largest source of EU road transportation CO₂ emissions, by far.
