In 2022, the commercial sector of the United States utilized 41.1 million dry tons of biomass for generating electricity and thermal energy. Wood and wood waste were the most utilized biomass resources in the commercial sector, accounting for 32.8 million dry tons. Biogenic municipal solid waste was the next most consumed biomass resource at 6.8 million dry tons.
