Share of global population gaining electricity access by 2030, by technology
An increase in the number of people having access to electricity is essential to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. According to a recent forecast, only 44 percent of the people gaining access to electricity between 2023 and 2030 will be connected to the central power grid. The remaining share will be connected to mini grids, small-scale electricity generation and transmission facilities not connected to the central grid, or have stand-alone electricity production systems.
