According to its "Energy Storage Industry Development Strategy", the South Korean government aims to have 8-hour energy storage systems (ESS) make up over 15 gigawatts of backup power storage by 2036. There has been renewed attention on large-scale ESS as of late due to their necessity in viable renewable energy utilization.
